Actually, my very favorite quote ever is on this theme. It is that of holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl, writer of the classic “Man’s Search For Meaning:

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

I would add.. “and our happiness or unhappiness.”

I finished reading your article 37 minutes ago am just now leaving my comment. I feel like I'm the one yelling at myself these days and getting distracting by unnecessary drama I'm stirring up in my own head. If only I could ignore the part of me shouting about all the things I should be doing differently and just stick with one task at a time. It seems my brain doesn't work that way, but maybe I just need to ignore that jerk in the jag inside of me?
